National and New Jersey Standards for Music Education

I will be using the following National and New Jersey State Standards to develop and implement new and exciting lessons for your student(s). 

NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR MUSIC EDUCATION:

1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.

5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards for Music Education:
 
1.1 (Aesthetics) All students will use aesthetic knowledge in the creation of and in response to dance, music, theater, and visual art.
 
1.2 (Creation and Performance) All students will utilize those skills, media, methods, and technologies appropriate to each art form in the creation, performance, and presentation of dance, music, theater, and visual art.
 
1.3 (Elements and Principles) All students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of dance, music, theater, andvisual art.
 
1.4 (Critique) All students will develop, apply, and reflect upon knowlege of the process of critique.
 
1.5 (History/Culture) All students will understand and analyze the role, development, and continuing influence of the arts in relation to world cultures, history, and society.
